Who We Are
Our History ►
The Family Enhancement Center was originally founded in 1993 with the vision of engaging communities in assuring the well-being of all our children. Children thrive in families that are supported with information, resources, and other community members working together to protect and nurture their potential. Volunteers initially staffed many activities for children and parents, which were provided at Phelps Park in South Minneapolis. Collaborations emerged with the Minneapolis Park Board, Southside Village Boys and Girls Club, and Green Central Medical Clinic. Family Enhancement Center founders worked with Hennepin County to design counseling services for children and families who had experienced abuse or neglect, with the goal of preventing further abuse and promoting healing. Now the Family Enhancement Center offers three parent education support programs, a full range of counseling services, parenting assessments, and support groups. The Family Enhancement Center employs diverse, professional staff with advanced education in mental health practice and clinical training in assessment and therapy.

The Family Enhancement Center is dedicated to keeping all children safe by working with communities to provide innovative programs, family education and intervention.
The Family Enhancement Center is one of a handful of agencies in the greater metro area who has the expertise to help with families involved in the cycle of child abuse. The Center’s sole focus and commitment is the prevention and treatment of child abuse.
Our mission at FEC is two-fold: Through crisis phone counseling, family support services, and counseling for children and families, FEC help families who already struggle with child abuse as well as families who are at high risk for abuse; FEC is also an educational advocate -- bringing the issue of child abuse and its prevention to light through educational programs and community workshops. We aspire to create awareness of the issue of child abuse and its effects on individuals, families and the community itself.
Clients Served ►
The Family Enhancement Center services families from all over the greater metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our referrals come from faith communities, medical clinics, other human service agencies and walk-ins from word of mouth or even the phone book.

The Family Enhancement Center believes in honoring the family in the healing process yet first and foremost is an advocate for the safety and well-being of the child.
